I tried to reinstall 2013, but that was a nightmare with their foreign support group with such small parameters to identify the customer, so I had to have the person who built my computer to remotely reinstall 2016. I thought I was upgrading 2013, but it downloaded 2016, the forces of Microsoft, and I uninstalled 2016 to get back 2013, but then I had nothing as I read first and found I could do this on a support sight. Their “Office Everywhere” plan is bold but has it’s inherent problems as a licensing scheme. Office Online, Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows Phone, OS X, and iOS, each with free on device, Office 365 Home, Office 365 University, Office 365 Business, and Office Enterprise features. Microsoft will have different versions for different platforms and subscription levels. Microsoft is attempting to do what Apple has been doing with OS X and iOS apps, trying to make them at least aesthetically the same across platforms with out loosing too many features in the process. But that’s probably not likely, going by past history and what I see in the big picture. Hopefully, Microsoft will make Office 2016 for Mac a full fledged citizen and feature-comparable with Windows. The UI is cleaner and makes more sense than 2011. I will say, however, that IMAP support is solid and Outlook is faster than Mail on my Gmail and accounts. Outlook is missing the most… no support for syncing to anything but Exchange for contacts and calendars, even accounts. There’s one big problem right now in that I can’t seem to use anything but Office fonts so many of my DP files I can’t effectively edit unless I change the fonts. All the apps default opening and saving to OneDrive but it’s a simple click on “On My Mac” to bring up the system file window. Some features are not working yet (it is a beta after all) and many functions have been moved so muscle memory gets me lost sometimes. But operationally, it appears to be the 2011 code base with a new UI pasted on top. It can sit side by side with Office 2011 and the UI differences are vast. The Office Preview for Mac has been out for a while. Now You: What is your take on the preview? Will Office 2016 become subscription-based only?
